Introduction

A X.25 PAD (Packet Assembler/Disassembler) is hardware which will allow multiple asynchronous devices to access the IBM AS/400. The X.25 PAD is attached to an IBM AS/400 communications port. Modems (using a null modem cable/adapter) and personal computers (using a serial cable) are then attached to ports on the X.25 PAD. The X.25 PAD can support a total of eight (8) remote and locally attached personal computers in any combination. Additional modems and telephone lines are required for each X.25 PAD port used for remote access. Drawings of several Emulator Eliminator X.25 configurations are enclosed.

Features

The X.25 PAD and the personal computer(s) communicate asynchronously at baud rates from 1200 to 19,200. The X.25 PAD and the AS/400 communicate synchronously at the baud rate 9600. Optionally, a synchronous modem eliminator can be placed between the X.25 Pad and the AS/400. REDOC will be offering a modem eliminator which will support rates up to 56K (possibly higher).

Emulator Eliminator X.25 has the same features as Emulator Eliminator except for software call-back. New X.25 parameters and messages at job start-up in the personal computer software are the only apparent difference to the user. AS/400 software is provided for configuring the line, controller, and device descriptions for X.25 access. AS/400 software for programming the X.25 PAD is also included.

Existing U.S. Emulator Eliminator customers can order a X.25 PAD and the Emulator Eliminator X.25 upgrade package for $1,995.00 (U.S. Dollars) plus shipping. Emulator Eliminator X.25 upgrade includes software shipping. Emulator Eliminator X.25 upgrade package includes software license for a total of 25 personal computers. Additional copies of the PC software can be licensed according to the following price list.

For example: 125 additional licenses would be 100 x 10.00 + 25 x 7.50 for a total of $1,187.50.

The X.25 PAD from REDOC is shipped pre-configured for Emulator Eliminator X.25 and is ready to attach to the AS/400. The X.25 PAD and Emulator Eliminator X.25 software upgrade will be shipped 6 to 8 weeks from receipt of order. The modem eliminator can be ordered with your X.25 PAD for an additional $200.00

If your AS/400 is connected to one of the many national/international X.25 network services, you can use Emulator Eliminator X.25 to access you AS/400 through the network.

The AS/400 must be defined as the X.25 Host and the network pad X.3/X.128 parameters must be set as follows:

    P3=0
    P4=5
    P15=0
    P5=0
    P7=0
    P12=0
    P19=0
    P1=0
    P2=0
    P6=0

These parameters are normally set by the network provider.

Emulator Eliminator X.25 has been used on both British Telecom and Infonet.

Emulator Eliminator X.25 Upgrade with 25 PC licenses can be ordered without the X.25 PAD for $995. When using EE X.25 with a network provider, the customer is responsible for enrolling in the network and all charges connected with the enrollment and use of the network.
